Introduction

The Languages (IA & IB) CUET is a domain-specific test that is used for admission to undergraduate programs in languages. The test covers a wide range of topics related to the languages of India, including:

  • Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Assamese, Odia, Punjabi, and Sanskrit
  • Foreign languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian
  • Linguistics: Phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics
  • Translation: Theory and practice of translation
  • Literature: Indian and world literature

The test is divided into two sections: Section I: Languages (IA) and Section II: Languages (IB). Section I covers the basic concepts of the Indian languages, such as Hindi and Bengali. Section II covers the basic concepts of the foreign languages, such as English and French.

  1. Reading Comprehension: The questions of this section will be from three types of passages each one comprises of 300-
    350 words – Factual, Narrative, Literary
  2. Verbal Ability
  3. Rearranging the Parts
  4. Choosing the Correct Word
  5. Synonyms and Antonyms
  6. Vocabulary
    It will be compulsory for the students to attempt 40 questions out of 50 and they will get 45 minutes duration to solve section
    IA. The sole purpose ofthis language testis to evaluate the comprehensiveness and fluency of the candidates in their chosen
    language.
